Friday Favorites

It’s that time again! Where I link up with some other awesome mamas to share what we are loving this week (check them out here, here, and here). And what a Friday!  The Friday before Spring Break for us, and Good Friday…the Friday leading up to the celebration of Easter on Sunday. We could just stop right there, because that covers just about everything we could be thankful for, right?

I guess I will let that lead into my first favorite thing this week…

“The Jesus Storybook Bible” is one of the most beautiful books we own. Beautiful because of what the story is, yes, but the illustration and words really bring it to life. Our church gives these out during child dedication and I am so glad. We love reading the stories in it, and the telling of the Easter story is one we are turning to this weekend. If you have kids and are looking for a way to engage in Bible stories with them, I one million percent recommend this. There’s also a version for adults called “The Story of God’s Love for You” written by the same author. Same content as the Bible, yes, but it can be a lot less intimidating for those who are reluctant to pick up an actual Bible.

Another great Easter story book I’d recommend is “God Gave Us Easter”. There are a lot of books in this series, and they help bridge the gap between the commercial celebration of holidays and the true meaning. We have the Christmas one, and the Easter one is on its way to our house after a friend recommended it! There are quite a few books in this series.

Next up is something I shared a few days ago! The Spring Style Challenge!

You can read all about it on that blog post, but the gist of it is you get a clothing shopping list for each season and then 21 different outfits to put together with those clothing pieces. The list came out this week, and I already had quite a few of the clothing items in my closet. The rest I found on Old Navy and Amazon for right around $100. Too easy!

Of course I’m super late to the game on this one. Or maybe not if none of y’all have listened to this either. The Serial Podcast is basically listening to a documentary instead of watching it. Think “Making a Murderer” style story. It follows the story of a real murder case from 1999 and leaves you questioning the innocence or the guilt of the main player who has been in jail for the last 16 years. So good. I’m pretty sure I listened to all 10 episodes this week. They are currently producing season 2 but I haven’t listened to any of it yet. If you have and iPhone, you have a podcast app on your phone! Just click on it then search for Serial. Scroll to episode 1 of season 1 and then come back to me 10 hours later so we can talk about it!

Lastly, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, is running. Something I would have told you I hated a month ago. But Jonathan challenged me to 30 miles in March and I couldn’t say no. Thankfully the weather has been awesome, because this mama is not running when it’s hot. I love it because I need to workout 30 minutes a day anyway, but this is something I have to get out of the house for which is generally in the evening right when Jonathan gets home. When I need a break. And this whole running thing was his idea 😉 30 minutes by myself with my earphones in so I can listen to a podcast (usually The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey because it just puts me in a good mood and is super encouraging) or just think and talk to God for a little while uninterrupted. I am loving it. Ask me again when the temperature gets over 80 though.

That’s it for this week! What are you loving right now that I should try??
